Magic Your Way Vacation Packages Information on Disney Park Tickets

With a name that befits its architecture, Disney's Contemporary Resort offers Walt Disney World guests the convenience of staying "next door" to the Magic Kingdom in the comfort of one of Disney's deluxe resorts.

Rising 14 stories from the shores of Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon with its familiar A-frame design, the resort
is a 1,008-room modernistic marvel complete with a 90,000-square-foot convention center, three full-service restaurants, tennis center, marina and three swimming pools.

For convenience, the Walt Disney World monorail makes a stop inside the resort thanks to the monorail beam
that extends through the center of the A-frame -- whisking passengers to the adjacent Magic Kingdom or other
Walt Disney World Resort attractions via the nearby Disney Transportation and Ticket Center.

Contemporary Construction

One of two Disney resort hotels that opened with the Magic Kingdom in 1971, Disney's Contemporary Resort
was built on a 55-acre site adjacent to the Magic Kingdom. Living up to its modern style, the hotel was
constructed by methods that were ahead of their time.

While the hotel's steel skeleton was being constructed at the site, individual rooms were being built and
finished at Walt Disney World on an "assembly line" with workers completing 15 units per day. As each room
passed through the specially constructed building, the electrical, mechanical and plumbing facilities were added piece by piece.

Once furnished, the nine-ton guestrooms were trucked to the site, lifted by crane and slid into the steel
structure -- much like an oversized set of dresser drawers. The entire structure was then covered by specially designed, sun-resistant glass.

Dining at the Top of the 'World'

High atop the resort on the 15th floor sits one of the jewels in the Walt Disney World crown -- California Grill.

Since opening in 1995, the award-winning restaurant has earned a reputation as one of the best in America
with extraordinary cuisine and outstanding wines. The view is unmatched, and the lights dim each evening for
the Magic Kingdom fireworks (with choreographed music piped in). In fact, some nights it's hard to decide which
is more fun: watching the energetic chefs in the open kitchen, or a sunset washing over the Magic Kingdom.

Meeting Spaces, Fun in Many Places

Through the years, Disney's Contemporary Resort has been updated and renovated. In 1991, the convention
center was constructed and quickly became a favorite meeting location for groups at Walt Disney World Resort.

The hotel is also known for recreation. Swimming pools, tennis courts, beach volleyball, the fitness center and arcade are popular guest favorites, and the full-service marina offers boat rentals, bass fishing excursions, parasailing, Sea-Doos, wakeboarding and water skiing.

Resort Tips
  • Book a table at the California Grill to coincide with the Magic Kingdom fireworks, the view is fantastic!
  • Watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the boat dock each night.
  • When the parks have closed early, hop on the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge, or Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
  • Consider walking to the Magic Kingdom at busy times. The monorail can get quite full, and makes stops at the TTC, Polynesian and Grand Floridian before reaching the Magic Kingdom.
  • The Contemporary Resort now shares bus transport with the Polynesian and Grand Floridian Resorts, which can get a bit crowded at peak times, so allow a bit of extra travel time. Alternatively, jump on the monorail and get off at the TTC where you can catch a bus to your final destination.
  • Take advantage of the many recreation options - volleyball, tennis, watersports, boating...
  • For the ultimate view of the Magic Kingdom and surrounding area, go parasailing from Sammy Duvall's Watersports Center at the Contemporary.
  • In the Grand Concourse, by the monorail station is a large floor to ceiling mosiac. One of the goats has five legs. Can you spot it?
